Art Conspiracy (Art Con) is excited to announce that a gift was presented to Music Is Our Weapon (MIOW), its 2016 beneficiary, in the amount of $20,000.
For the last 12 years, Art Con has fed more than $300,000 right back into the cultural community of North Texas. Each year, nonprofits apply to Art Conspiracy to become the beneficiary of the year. The selected group is then highlighted throughout the year up until the big event held annually in November. Through community-engaged philanthropy, a gift is raised by a dedicated year-round team, as well as volunteers, artists, musicians and patrons.
About Music Is Our Weapon:
Music and Art are both universal languages. For anyone and everyone, music and art open a door to an internal dialogue that speaks to each individual’s heart, mind and soul. Where does music take you? Who does it remind you of? This escape is how local nonprofit organization, Music Is Our Weapon, makes a difference. This organization is dedicated to helping people in nursing homes and other care facilities who suffer from a wide range of cognitive and physical challenges to find renewed meaning and connection in their lives through the gift of personalized music. Their approach is simple, elegant and effective: They train care professionals how to set up personalized music playlists, delivered on digital devices with access to Spotify and Pandora. These playlists tap deep memories not lost to dementia and can bring residents back to life, enabling them to feel like themselves again, to converse, socialize and stay present.
The gift MIOW received will be going to the facilities they work with and allow them to expand the outreach to more caregivers throughout the metroplex. Every dollar they received will have a direct impact on those who need the music. We are excited to have worked with MIOW last year, and we look forward to continuing the partnership for years to come.
