It’s that time of year again – time for our annual springtime seed event (so-called because of its purpose — to raise the “seed” funds necessary to throw the big Art Con in the fall)!

Our theme for this year’s seed event is WRECKED, featuring art from 40+ curated artists inspired by the deconstruction and reconstruction of ordinary objects. All artwork will be available for sale in a live auction, Art Con-style, at opening bids of $50. Three local bands will perform throughout the night—Dark Rooms, French 75 with DJ Mouth Mold, and Ronnie Heart.

The event will be held at Life in Deep Ellum (2803 Taylor St.) on June 7. Tickets are $10 and on sale now [CLICK TO BUY TICKETS].

“A lot of people think of this annual event as a mini ArtCon,” said Art Conspiracy Executive Director Erica Felicella. “Instead of the 150 artists we feature in the flagship event held in the fall, we gathered just over 40 artists to contribute and create for WRECKED. The proceeds from this auction are used as seed money to fund the larger ArtCon event in November.”

Every year, Art Conspiracy chooses one charity to designate as beneficiary of proceeds raised through ArtCon events. The 2014 beneficiary will be announced at WRECKED.

Art Conspiracy events are designed to be affordable and offer attendees the chance to purchase original artwork with opening bids starting at $50. Featured artists include Dowdy Studio, Jill Foltz, Kurt Griesbach, Lisa Lindholm, Sara Lovas, Sierra Sintic, and Kris Swenson. Please see below for a full list.

“Music is just as important to our events as the art and artists themselves,” said Felicella. “We carefully select bands for each event that we feel align with our mission—and of course inspire us to listen, dance, and rock.”

The bands will perform sandwiched between two live WRECKED auctions. Be sure to catch Dark Rooms featuring Daniel Hart, French 75 with DJ Mouth Mold, featuring Jencey Keeton from Smile Smile (the group will release its CD at the event), and Ronnie Heart, from Neon Indian.

In addition to the art and music, local food trucks will serve an eclectic mix of cuisines. Nammi (Vietnamese), Easy Sliders, and Say Kimchi (Korean) will be on site at 6 pm.

Art Conspiracy has been organizing artist-led events since 2005. The mission of Art Conspiracy is to inspire Dallas’ art and music scenes to join forces for the benefit of local non-profit arts organizations. Non-profits with an annual budget of less than $400,000 and that offer creative programming in the form of art or music that gives back to youth, families, and citizens within the Dallas city limits are considered to be chosen as Art Conspiracy’s annual beneficiaries.

Until the recent addition of the event series ArtCon(cert), ArtCon has primarily been known for the two annual fundraising events that support other non-profit arts programs.

Since 2005, Art Conspiracy has raised over $250,000 for groups including 2012 beneficiaries:

  • Girls Rock Dallas, dedicated to empowering girls and women through the use of music education to promote self-esteem and confidence.
  • W. T. White Academy of Visual and Performing Arts – Ceramics Program, dedicated to helping students succeed, regardless of socioeconomic status, physical, mental, or language limitations, or lack of previous education.
