Racehl Gollay

Written by: Christopher Hughes

On the heels of her recently released album, Built For Love, Rachel Gollay, the twenty-eight year old singer-songwriter from Fort Worth, has emerged as one of the most exciting artists and performers in the DFW metroplex. While her songs lend themselves to a full-band production, they can just as easily be stripped down to their light, airy melodies, dynamic guitar work and vocals that ring clear as a bell—always a good indication of a solidly written composition. Neko Case comparisons are sure to be heard both in her voice and in the sound of the album itself (she cites Case as an influence), but Gollay has a vision that is uniquely hers. And with that vision comes a self-awareness and philosophy about her work. “I think art is here to help us make sense of our reality in ways that other pursuits can’t, and the artist is responsible for steering that process…” she says. “It’s a vocabulary for the soul.”

Be sure to check out Rachel Gollay at the Kirk Hopper Fine Art Gallery on May 8th, presented by Art Conspiracy.
