Ronnie Heart

“If I had a main course with why I make music, it’s to bring joy to everything around me,” says the North Texas-based songwriter and DJ, Ronnie Heart.

The sentiment seems appropriate when you listen to his current offerings on SoundCloud. They are celebratory and sprawling, clocking in at just under an hour. The music is a well-curated mix of jazz, bossa nova, ambient, soul, R&B and pop. At times it is not far off from his previous project, Neon Indian, and there are echoes of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti as well, with its lysergic nods to the pop hits of yesteryear.

But these are mixtapes, essentially. This summer, Heart will release his debut album, Your Mine, recorded at his home in Fort Worth, and also with James Talambas at New Media Recordings. It promises to be something we can dance to, full of catchy guitar licks and melodic hooks.

“To me, songwriting is a process that has several stages,” Heart states. “Prepping it all for recording or performing is fun because I have to relate the music to my palette and hope the audience receives and relates to the sounds in the way I do.”
